Hip & Humble is a local business committed to improving its community. Founder Sheridan Mordue emphasizes the importance of community and how the store is more than a retail store, rather a value driven community hub.
Mordue discusses the core values of the company by saying, “Our core values really come down to feminism, community, authenticity, and color. These words aren’t just for show—they guide the way we move through the world and how we treat every person who walks through our doors.” She continues to talk about her employees by saying, “. We don’t have a sales agenda—we have a connection agenda. We strive to make friends, spark beautiful conversations, and create memorable moments for everyone who shops with us.”
Mordue gratefully reflects on her customers by saying, “Our long-standing motto is Every Customer is a Gift, and I truly believe that. Even after 25 years, I’m still overwhelmed with gratitude when someone thinks of Hip & Humble… . That choice, that thoughtfulness, is the real gift we receive every day.” She continues to say, “ We strive to make sure every interaction, no matter the location, still feels intimate, authentic, and meaningful.”
Mordue touches on the thoughtful sourcing and brands she works with. She says, “We also love working with brands that build giving into their business model. For example, Bitchstix—a best-seller—donates a portion of every wholesale purchase to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence.” She continues to say, “We also love working with brands that build giving into their business model. For example, Bitchstix—a best-seller—donates a portion of every wholesale purchase to support survivors of domestic and sexual violence.” She emphasizes the importance of this by saying, “It’s these kinds of partnerships that help us stay aligned with our values of thoughtful sourcing and social impact.”
Mordue emphasizes Hip & Humble’s commitment to community by saying, “We partner with a local nonprofit in every community where we have a store—including places like Florida, Charlotte, and Louisville. One of our most meaningful and ongoing initiatives is something we created called Kind Women for Women Kind. It’s a campaign where we collaborate with a women-focused organization that addresses a specific need in that community—whether it’s support for survivors of human trafficking, access to higher education, childcare resources, or helping women rebuild after relocating from countries in crisis.” She continues to say, “The profits from those sales go directly to the selected nonprofit partner. It’s our way of creating a beautiful, tangible and meaningful connection between our customers and the causes that matter most to the women in their own communities.”
