When asked what tips she would give for shopping at small businesses, Shelby Livingston — the manager of the 9th and 9th location of the Salt & Honey Market — said the following:
“Go to a market or craft fair, a low entry, don’t pay a ticket. It’s free. They’re all over, especially with Instagram, you can find them.”
“Meet the makers, ask them questions, that is really good for making connections and that is why I do it.”
“Evaluating what you want and need vs what is trending and is cute right now but are you going to donate it in a year? I do buy fewer things because I’m spending a little more but they are things that are going to last me a lifetime… like I do want this beautiful frame in my house, and yes I could buy it for $3 on Amazon or I could support this local business who contributes to the community.”
“Find artists on instagram you can find artists on instagram that you love you can probably find a store local to you that sells something similar or sells that product even.”
