Mia’s story is one of extraordinary ambition, resilience, and intentionality. The first-generation Ethiopian American from Syracuse, Utah, defied expectations at every turn—both in how she built her career and in how she embraced her unique background.
Being from Utah has often been a conversation starter for her as people don’t expect black professionals from the state. She has turned that surprise into an opportunity to share her journey, build connections, and assert her presence in industries. But it’s more than just a talking point, her Utah upbringing is what fuels her determination. Without immediate access to the professional networks found in major cities like Los Angeles or New York, she had to create opportunities rather than wait for them. That drive shaped her into the ambitious powerhouse she is today.
Her tenure as a presidential intern under President Randall gave her unparalleled exposure to how diverse perspectives shape higher education. She saw firsthand how different backgrounds and experiences influence institutional decision-making, helping the University of Utah evolve in how it addresses student needs.
Beyond academia, Mia strategically positioned herself in the entertainment industry. Taking an out of state internship in her junior year was a turning point. Surrounded by professionals who looked like her, believed in her, and pushed her, she found momentum. That confidence propelled her to master her craft, turning her expertise in business management and marketing into a competitive edge.
She didn’t just pursue opportunities, she created them. She built strong relationships, sought out mentors, and connected with industry leaders where entertainment thrives. That initiative paid off; she secured a spot in an exclusive student program for music and entertainment, leveraging her existing community to help her step into rooms that once seemed out of reach.
As a recent graduate of the David Eccles School of Business, Mia’s accomplishments speak for themselves: she’s an MLT Fellow, a Google Product Inclusion Summit participant, and a soon-to-be graduate student at NYU. But more than her accolades, her relentless mindset sets her apart. Every time she encountered an opportunity, she did her research, understood the requirements, and applied—never letting self-doubt stop her from going after what she wanted.
Mia is passionate about representation, advocating for underrepresented groups in spaces where they are often overlooked. She’s ready to take on New York City, eager to immerse herself in an electric environment of young professionals shaping the future. With ambition, strategic vision, and a fearless approach to building her career, Mia is redefining what it means to own your path and create space in industries where you belong.
